'Ace Ventura' Reboot Rumors: TV or Film Reboot Planned by New Morgan Creek
The 90's top pet detective could be back, as Hollywood continues to dig up past properties to polish off as new remakes. This time, it's "Ace Ventura" who could be getting the reboot treatment as a large studio re-establishes itself.
The whole thing is part of the relaunch of the Morgan Creek Productions, which has rebranded itself as the new Morgan Creek Entertainment Group, nearly three decades from their first launch. For their next move, the company is planning to revive several of their properties, the "Ace Ventura" series among them.
Among the more than 60 movies that the new Morgan Creek has under license, the studio is now looking to reboot one or more of "Ace Ventura," "Major League," "Young Guns," "Dead Ringers," "Diabolique" "Pacific Heights," and "Nightbreed," according to Deadline.
The studio first took a stab at reviving an old series with "The Exorcist," a classic that they have dusted off nearly five years ago as a new TV series. It has since gone on to have a second season, supported by a faithful following and strong support from critics.
A new "Ace Ventura" movie would not be a retread of the 1994 "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," or the 1995 follow-up "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls," according to MEG president David Robinson.
The new remake will have to be "a new movie in the spirit of the original," as quoted by Bustle. It doesn't have to be a full-feature movie, as well. As shown by the two movies, both of which have their own, separate storylines, the series "lends itself to a traditional single-camera series franchise" as Robinson noted.
It would not be the first attempt at bringing back "Ace Ventura," as fans would note. A direct-to-video feature called "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective Jr." was made back in 2009, without Jim Carrey or any of the original writers on board.
