Acer May Announce 4 New Windows Phones at IFA 2015
Acer is expected to unveil four new Windows phones at the IFA Berlin in early September, WinFuture has announced.
Anticipated among the highlights of the IFA 2015 consumer electronics tradeshow in Berlin from Sept. 4 to 9, Acer's four new Windows phones are set to be launched, according to a tweet from German WinFuture editor, Roland Quandt.
While there has been no news from the Taiwanese multinational electronics corporation to confirm the news, it's expected the new phones will be powered by Microsoft's Windows 10 for Mobile.
Earlier on, the software giant's Group Lead, Anthony Doherty, who heads the Windows and Surface Business Group in South Africa, revealed the new OS for Mobile was geared for a November timeframe. Assuming the timetable was set for the South African region, users in U.S. and the U.K. may expect Windows 10 for Mobile to arrive before that time.
With Acer's expected launch of its new Windows handsets, presumed to be powered by Windows 10 for Mobile, Europe may be the first to witness the new OS' availability for handheld devices.
The new set of Windows phones will succeed the Taiwanese PC and phone maker's Acer Liquid M220, its Windows Phone 8.1-based smartphone with a 4-inch display, 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB internal storage, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor that was launched in April.
Whether Acer is set to unveil a series of entry-level, mid-range, and high-end Windows 10 Mobile devices during the six-day conference is yet to be revealed.
Microsoft is also rumored to introduce its own Windows 10 Mobile devices with two high-end smartphones -- the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL during the same period.
