"The Song" is based on Ecclesiastes as well as the Song of Solomon, which both point to difficult, true-to-life issues with wisdom and clarity. Powell went on to point out that the film takes a grittier, more realistic look at marriage while speaking to CP.

"I think it's risky because a lot of faith-based films tip-toe or walk up to line and then kind of back off," said the actor. "There are certain risks there, but at same time, our intent was to stay true to Scripture. I hope people are willing to go on that journey with us. Also, there is nothing inappropriate in the film, nothing that I feel like you need to be embarrassed about or ashamed or even cautious about, we are simply telling the story as the Bible tells it. So I think there's something powerful to that."

Powell explained that his Christian faith guides his acting career, and consequently, the actor/musician only appears in films that offer a positive message to moviegoers. Citing "The Song" as having just that when it comes to the challenges of marriage, Powell added his take on the role of forgiveness between spouses.

"I don't think that there are lines in a marriage that cannot be uncrossed," he told CP. "The reason I say that is because of our relationship to God. We have ability to forgive just to the measure He forgives us. That is not to say the right and wrongness of couples who separate, situations are so different. But forgiveness plays into the marriage on a day-to-day basis."
