Actor Richard Lynch Dies, Leaves Behind Frightening Legacy

Actor Richard Lynch has been found dead in his home, his representative said. The actor, known for his facial features and playing the villain, was 76.

According to Mike Baronas, Lynch's representative, a friend stopped by Lynch's home after not hearing from him for several days. When she entered the home, she discovered Lynch's body on the floor of his kitchen, "cold and lifeless."

No autopsy has been scheduled, and no investigation is pending in the matter. Instead, Lynch's body was taken directly to a funeral home and services are pending. It's a somewhat mysterious end to the life of one who made his way playing the villain or terrifying character in several well-known movies, including "Halloween."

He started his career with roles in "Scarecrow," "Little Nikita," and the 2007 version of "Halloween." In each film, Lynch's character was feared due to his appearance, which features several facial scars. The scars were actually real, and were the result of Lynch setting himself on fire in 1967.

Although he was most well known for his acting ability, Lynch served in the Marine Corps from 1956 to 1960 and was an accomplished musician. He could play the saxophone, piano, guitar and flute. Lynch was married twice, once to Beatrix, with whom he had a son, Christopher; and finally to Lily, who survives him.

While maintaining a heavy presence on the big screen, Lynch also appeared on several successful TV series, including "Murder, She Wrote," "Battlestar Galactica," and "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

Fans and colleagues have expressed their sadness at the loss.

"The news that Richard Lynch has passed away was a terrible blow. He was the first 'pro' actor I ever worked with," tweeted Albert Pyun.

"RIP Richard Lynch. Loved you in Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' and Full Moon Horror's 'Puppet Master 3.' You'll be greatly missed!" added Zombilly.
