Lana Condor as Jubilee in 'X-Men Apocalypse' (VIDEO)
"X-Men Apocalypse" has just added newbie actress Lana Condor to play the mutant Jubilee who will be introduced to the franchise's upcoming movie next year.
"X-Men Apocalypse" director, Bryan Singer recently tweeted the identity of a showbiz newcomer recently cast to play Jubilee in the latest Marvel Comics mutant superhero film. Lana Condor has been announced as Jubilee, who will be joining a rapidly swelling cast for the May 27, 2016 film.
Marvel's Jubilee, a mutant with pyrotechnic energy power, first appeared in the May 1989 issue of the "Uncanny X-Men." Billed as the team's youngest member, she initially began as a sidekick before getting promoted to the junior team in "Generation X," and eventually becoming one of the more prominent characters in Fox's "X-Men Animated Series in the 1990s.
Whether Condor will take on the '90s mall rat appearance of the Jubilee comics version is still open to debate. However, her mutant power of hurling colorful bursts of firework-like energy at enemies will likely be incorporated into the live-action version.
Condor joins a growing list of X-Men characters Singer has been regularly introducing over social media, including younger versions of the original cast of characters: Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and Sophie Turner as Jean Gray.
Channing Tatum's initial appearance as Gambit has also been announced, with his brief "X-Men: Apocalypse" role a preparation for audiences to see him in his own spinoff film, "Gambit."
This latest "X-Men" offering will mark Jennifer Lawrence's last turn as Mystique, and speculations have emerged it will be James McAvoy's and Michael Fassbender's last appearances as Professor X and Magneto, as well.
Condor and the new cast will be joining returning characters played by Lawrence, McAvoy, Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, and Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert.
