Adam Driver Never Lost Passion for Acting Despite Serving in US Marines, Family Says
Before becoming famous on HBO's "Girls," Adam Driver was a member of the United States Marine Corps. His family is revealing all about their son, whom they are very proud of and never expected to go so far in his acting career.
"We're proud and honored and full of joy to be part of Adam's life," his stepfather, Rodney Wright, told Mail Online. "He spoke to his mother about 'Star Wars' – he's working on the other side of the country right now and we really haven't been allowed to say anything, but now all the family have been calling and we're very excited."
News leaked this week that Driver was in contention to play the infamous Darth Vader in the newest "Star Wars" reboot. "Girls" co-star Lena Dunham tweeted about Driver's new role, sending fans into a tizzy of excitement.

"We're VERY proud of Adam Driver re: Star Wars," Dunham tweeted. "He's about to rip a hole in da force. Is that a thing? I guess I should see those movies?"
Of course, his family never expected anything to come from his interest in acting. Even though he always had a passion for it, Driver decided to enlist with the Marines after the September 11th attacks. After serving his two years, Driver returned home with the same passion for acting, so he enrolled at Julliard.
"Adam forbids us to watch it," Wright said of "Girls." "But we watch everything else he's done."
Driver admitted that he suffered from a "deep depression" after being discharged from the Marines.
"I feel like there were so many reasons that I joined the Marine Corps, and then all those things kind of went away once I started serving with that particular group of guys – all political aspirations or motivations that were there before started to change once I grew to love that group of people. So the idea of not going to do my job with that group in that platoon was kind of devastating," he told GQ.
"I had an epic, like, come-to-Jesus moment," he added about acting. "I didn't lose my ambition about being in the Marine Corps, but it was definitely clear to me that I knew what I wanted to do when I got out."
"Girls" has proven to be a huge success for HBO and its stars. It has found a regular following and launched the careers of the actors on it.
