Adele Steals Show at VMAs, Beyonce Says Singer's Voice 'Like Listening to God'

Soul artist Adele sang her number one single, "Someone Like You" at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday and the performance is being hailed as the best of the evening.

Standing under a solitary spotlight and wearing an elegant black dress, the British songstress crooned out the melody about love lost, accompanied by a piano harmony.

The second single on Adele's sophomore album, "21," "Someone Like You" has been critically acclaimed and was number one in the UK music charts for four consecutive weeks, the longest reign of any UK album so far in this decade.

She culminated her evening by taking home three VMA awards for her other smash single, "Rolling in the Deep."

Several other artists expressed their adoration for the singer at the awards show.

Pop artists Britney Spears and Selena Gomez discussed anticipating Adele's performance at the VMA pre-show event.

"I love her. I'm the biggest fan. I'm really excited about seeing [her]," Spears said of Adele.

“She’s a breath of fresh air and she’s so exciting and her music is adding another dimension to radio that’s so important. She’s [also] a truly lovely person - which, to me, is always my favorite,” pop artist, Lady Gaga told MTV.

Pop and R&B singer Beyonce has credited Adele as inspiration for her latest album, "4."

In April 2011, Adele interviewed with Rolling Stone magazine and spoke of how Beyonce surprisingly compared her music to "listening to God."

“I was about to meet Beyonce and I had a full-blown anxiety attack. Then she popped in looking gorgeous, and said, ‘You’re amazing! When I listen to you I feel like I’m listening to God.’ Can you believe she said that?” she told Rolling Stone.
