Adventures in Odyssey Creator Phil Lollar Looks to Make Iliad House a Radio Hit
Writer and producer Phil Lollar launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for his new independent audio drama, Iliad House.
Lollar is co-creator of Focus on the Family's Adventures in Odyssey, which now has 20 million products in distribution, and is widely known for its syndication as a Christian family radio show.
"I honestly believe that audio drama is the best storytelling device ever created, which is why I've chosen to present Iliad House in that format," Lollar said in a press release. The Christian-themed show will target 8- to 14-year-olds, and he promises it will entertain the whole family.
The campaign will run through August 31, 2013, as he looks to raise $100,000 to create a pilot mini-series followed by a first season of 12 half-hour episodes.
Iliad House's cast will include Adventures in Odyssey talent, such as Katie Leigh, who voiced Odyssey's Connie Kendall.
Iliad House will focus in on 14-year-old Jesse Davidson, a boy who goes to live with his genius uncle in a strange mansion on an island on the east coast of the U.S.
"Jesse discovers that the train he and his friends have used as a clubhouse actually moves -- through time. He and his friends get caught up in a series of adventures fraught with temporal distortions, political intrigue, secret societies, and supernatural battles, all as they try to cope with the daily pressures of adolescence," a press release said.
Every episode will feature a lesson in forgiveness and redemption as they face the realities of life.
"Kickstarter is a great way for independent productions to reach straight to the audience and compel them with a good story," Lollar said. "My goal is that audio drama fans have a chance to support this campaign so we can have another great show well told available to families everywhere."
