Samsung Flip Mobile Phone Revealed

After Korean manufacturer LG revealed its Android flip phone recently, the Korean mobile company Samsung unveiled its own flip phone called the Galaxy Folder. This clamshell phone, however, is not a new device for Samsung, but is instead an upgraded version of a phone model the company earlier introduced in 2013.

According to a report in Android Authority, the Galaxy Folder was first introduced by Samsung in 2013 when the company wanted to give users an Android experience with "a nostalgic feeling of a flip phone." The first Galaxy Folder was introduced in India. Apparently, flip phones are very popular in South Korea, thus the company is releasing this phone in its home market.

The Galaxy Folder sports a 3.8-inch touch screen and according to a Tech Times report, is slightly wider than the LG Gentle's 3.2-inch screen. This new flip phone only has one touch screen, unlike previous models of Samsung flip phones which had multiple screens. Display quality is of higher resolution than the previous Galaxy Folder and that of the LG Gentle.

Unlike the LG Gentle, Samsung has not yet made known what Android OS will come with the new device. Under the hood, it will have a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor with only 8 GB of internal storage, but expandable to 128 GB via microSD. No information was given about the device's RAM. Its main rear-facing camera is 8 megapixel, while its front-facing camera is only 2 megapixel.

It sports a 1,800 mAh battery, and will come in two color variants – black and white. The phone's keypad, aside from its T9 predictive text function, is also equipped with the trio of Android navigation key buttons, as well as a dedicated button for accessing the camera and some of the social apps.

The Galaxy Folder is pricier than the LG Gentle at $256 and will be available in South Korea in August. There is no indication if the handset will be released outside of South Korea.
