'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 4: Simmons' Death Details Revealed in Sneak Peek
In the world inside the Framework, the villainous Hydra reigns supreme, and Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) may be on their own when ABC's Marvel-based series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns this week.
In the latest sneak peek for the upcoming episode, Daisy treads her new role as a Hydra agent with bated breath, hoping against all hope to catch up with what's going on before she gets found out. But when she sits on her desk to search for Simmons on the system, she finds out that her friend has died from a laboratory accident that claimed the lives 200 S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy members.
And as though that isn't shocking enough, in comes Agent May (Ming-Na Wen), sporting Hydra logos on the sleeves of her uniform and treating Daisy like a cold boss would an insolent subordinate. It is then that it becomes clear to Daisy that aside from herself, everybody else is unaware of the fabricated world they are living in.

But is Simmons really gone? In an interview with CBR, executive producer Jed Whedon shared that if they were going to kill Simmons off, they would not be doing it off-screen. So there is a fairly good chance that Daisy's only ally could still be alive.
"I think she will have to overcome her own childhood tribulations in the Framework, and it looks like they'll be a little bit harder than Daisy's. Daisy woke up in a warm tub; I have a feeling that's not where Simmons will find herself," Whedon added.
As to how Daisy will eventually find Simmons in the Framework is something that will be dealt with as the upcoming episode progresses. Of course, convincing everybody else to wake up and out of their ideal, no-regret lives is another story.
There is also the matter of Aida (Mallory Jansen) fashioning an identity for herself inside the Framework as the infamous Madame Hydra to perhaps keep things in order inside her fabricated world. Can Daisy and Simmons' plans get past her watchful eyes?
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 episode 16 titled "What If..." airs on Tuesday, April 4 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
