'AKA Jessica Jones' News: Expanded Synopsis of Next Netflix Series Revealed
After the runaway success on Netflix of "Daredevil" resulting in a season renewal, the digital network was quick to announce that they are coming up with a new series, "AKA Jessica Jones," who is part of Marvel's superhero group of "Defenders."
The new series is reportedly finishing production already, and is set for a Fall release on Netflix. News has been sparse about the show's plot details and the network has only so far revealed nothing more than the cast members, who are Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, David Tennant as Zebediah Killgrave or The Purple Man, and Rachel Taylor in an undisclosed role.
Thanks to a recent post in Amazon about the upcoming book "Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones: Season One" which a companion book for release in November, Marvel fans will get more details about the series' plot. According to a report in Screen Rant, the series is set in Hell's Kitchen in New York City, and it happens after Jones' "short-lived stint as a Super Hero." The description further reads:
"Jessica Jones has been rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, sardonic, badass private detective … Plagued by self-loathing, and a wicked case of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities as an unlikely champion for those in need … especially if they are willing to cut her a check."
Another report in Games Radar says that because the character is new to most viewers except for Marvel fans, the series is expected to showcase some of Jones' backstory as a Super Hero and how she acquired her PTSD. However, the Screen Rant report notes that if the series will be based largely on the book to be released, it will mainly focus on "her later years as a private investigator which brings her in contact with plenty of other powered people who need help, and of course, her relationship with Luke Cage (Mike Colter)." Her history with The Purple Man is also likely to be featured in the series.
