Alcatel OneTouch Set to Launch Windows 10 Smartphone

Alcatel OneTouch has confirmed it is currently developing its own Windows 10 smartphone which is geared to launch this year.

Alcatel OneTouch, a Chinese smartphone brand well known for its low-priced devices, has confirmed via the company's senior vice president for North America, Steve Cistulli, that it will be unveiling a Windows 10 handset by the end of the year.

The news comes on the heels of a leak from well-known Twitter tech leakster, Evan Blass, also known as @evleaks, of an upcoming Windows 10 smartphone under the Alcatel OneTouch banner.

Cistulli revealed the news during the CTIA Super Mobility 2015 technology event in Las Vegas Thursday, and while he did not elaborate on the upcoming smartphone's specs, @evleaks posted information on his Twitter account revealing the Windows 10 Alcatel OneTouch phone will feature a 5.5-inch 720p screen, underneath which will be a Snapdragon 210 SoC powering the device.

The smartphone, reportedly called the OneTouch Fierce XL, will be supported by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage running on a 2,500mAh battery.

The Fierce XL will sport an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front snapper. The device, rumored to support VoLTE, will be running Windows 10 software, the new Microsoft OS launched for PCs and tablets in July.

According to Cistulli, Alcatel OneTouch is putting their full support behind the new Windows ecosystem, said to be a rare position in the face of most smartphone manufacturers' lukewarm reception to Windows 10's recently launched unifying system.

With Apple's iOS and Google's Android mobile software dominating the market for mobile devices, less than four percent of handset users in the US own a Windows phone.

Apart from the OneTouch Fierce XL that's scheduled to be launched in three months, Microsoft has confirmed it will be releasing its own high-end Windows 10 handset also by the end of the year.
