Alec Baldwin Saturday Night Live Sketch Pokes Fun at American Airlines (VIDEO)
After being kicked off an American Airlines flight last week for refusing to turn off his mobile device because he was in the middle of playing the Scrabble-like game Words with Friends, Alec Baldwin appeared on SNL this weekend to give a mock apology to himself dressed as an American Airlines employee.
“Weekend Update” anchor Seth Meyers introduced the “30 Rock” star as Capt. Steve Rogers, the pilot of the flight that Baldwin had apparently been on.
As Mr. Rogers, Baldwin appeared in a pilot’s uniform and spoke in a deep voice with a southern accent, donning a fake mustache. He started off by saying, “It was awful, Seth, which is why it was very important for me to come here tonight and on behalf of everyone at American Airlines, issue an apology to Mr. Alec Baldwin.”

He goes on to say, “Mr. Baldwin is an American treasure, and I am ashamed at the way he was treated. I mean, what harm would it do to let him keep playing his game – not any game, mind you, but a word game for smart people!”
At one point Meyers asks, “Don’t mobile devices interfere with the plane’s communications system?” Baldwin replies, “You don’t believe that, do you, Seth? Would you really get on an airplane that flew 30,000 feet in the air if you thought one Kindle switch could take it down? Come on! It’s just a cruel joke perpetrated by the airline industry, and we would’ve gotten away with it. But Alec Baldwin was just too smart for us. He really is something, Seth.”
Meyers interrupted a few times and asked Baldwin if he thought dealing with the situation in this fashion was the right way to go about things, to which Baldwin in his real voice whispered each time that it was fine, that they should keep going.
Meyers also interjects at one point, “It was also reported that Alec Baldwin slammed the bathroom door so loudly that you could hear it in the cockpit.”
Baldwin replies, “Now, Words with Friends can be frustrating, and…when you think you’re about to play ‘jailers’ off of someone’s ‘quiche,’ and then you realize you don’t have the ‘i,’ let me tell you, that’ll make you slam the bathroom door, too!”
According to CBS News, on Tuesday, Baldwin tweeted that a flight attendant “reamed” him for playing Words with Friends while the plane was sitting as the gate at LAX Airport.
American Airlines said on its Facebook page on Wednesday that Baldwin (whom they didn’t mention by name) “slammed the lavatory door so hard, the cockpit crew heard it and became alarmed, even with the cockpit door closed and locked. The passenger was extremely rude to the crew, calling them inappropriate names and using offensive language. Given the facts above, the passenger was removed from the flight and denied boarding."
