Alex McFarland: God Is Raising People Committed to Prayer, Preserving Freedom
The first spiritual town hall meeting initiated by Christian apologist Alex McFarland, aimed at reviving a Christian worldview in America, was held Tuesday evening and broadcast over the Internet from First Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C.
"Awaken – America's Spiritual Town Hall" was considered a success by McFarland, who is the director for Christian Worldview and Apologetics at the Christian Worldview Center of North Greenville University in Greenville, S.C.
"The spiritual town halls are off and running. We had attendees come from hours away and questions emailed from across the country," he said. "I believe that God is raising a segment of the population who love God and country with a love similar to the love of freedom held by our founders. God is raising a people who are committed to prayer and to doing everything possible to preserving our freedom."

During his turn among two other speakers, McFarland said, "Here tonight in 2013, there are a lot of people in America that are hopeless. There are a lot of people in America that say the country's best days are behind her. Most twenty-somethings say they are going to have it worse than their parents. Most young adults feel like the time of opportunity has passed. There are some that are even occupying seats of leadership that are saying the best days are behind.
"As one who looks not only to the great history our nation has enjoyed but to the God that our founders believed in, let me say, false, wrong, nada – the greatest days are not behind if we turn to the Lord, Jesus Christ."
He said the town hall meeting was a time to issue a rallying cry and to say, "America of the 21st century and especially Christian Americans, we have an opportunity, and not only that, a responsibility."
The event was also a way to promote the Truth for a New Generation Conference, held in Sept. 27-28, and is a part of Project 2026, a 15-year initiative to preserve America and restore the nation to the Christian principles upon which the United States was founded, organizers say. Project 2026 organizers plan to involve more than 100,000 churches, plus organizations, ministries and individuals.
"The Truth for a New Generation Conference engages not only Millenials, but it's for all age groups as everyone will learn how to defend a relevant Christian faith in today's culture," organizers state. Among the speakers scheduled are Josh McDowell, Sean McDowell, Lee Strobel, Dan Kimball, and Erwin Lutzer.
McFarland recently told The Christian Post that he encourages Christians "to get serious about prayer, get serious about living out their Christian faith." He said that in order to save America and preserve the Constitution Christians must proclaim and defend the Christian worldview.
"The survival of America depends on a revival of Christianity. It is time for God's people to join together and pray," he states.
