All-Star Cast Heads 'Ratchet and Clank' Video Game Movie (VIDEO)
Sylvester Stallone, Rosario Dawson, and Paul Giamatti headline the all-star voice cast for the movie adaptation of video game, "Ratchet & Clank."
An all-star cast is set to star in the CGI adaptation of the platform video game series, "Ratchet & Clank," including Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Rosario Dawson, and Sylvester Stallone.
Focus Features earlier acquired the U.S. rights to the platform video game series, with Rainmaker Entertainment, Insomniac Games, and PlayStation having inked a collaboration to bring the science fiction video game series to the big screen with an animated film scheduled for U.S. theater release on April 29, 2016.
The plot will begin with the origin story of how feline-like Lombax mechanic, Ratchet (James Arnold Taylor) meets a small sentient robot, Clank (David Kaye), and the plot follows them on their adventures in space as they attempt to keep villains, Chairman Drek (Paul Giamatti) and the Blarg from destroying the Solana Galaxy.
Characters from other installments of the series, such as robotic supervillain Doctor Nefarious (Armin Shimerman), and the Galactic Rangers headed by Elaris (Rosario Dawson), will be introduced in the film, as well.
Jim Ward will star as galactic superhero celebrity, Captain Qwark; John Goodman as Ratchet's mentor, Grimroth; Bella Thorne plays Galactic Ranger, Cora, and Sylvester Stallone is Chairman Drek's evil lieutenant, Victor Von Ion.
"Ratchet & Clank" will be directed by "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" helmsman, Kevin Munroe, together with co-director, Jericca Cleland, with the script based on an original draft written by TJ Fixman, a former Insomnia Games writer.
The original game series was released for PlayStation 2 in 2002, and there are currently over a dozen games in the series, the latest having just been released this year.
The "Ratchet & Clank" video game series has earned generally positive reviews, with aggregator scores ranging from 61 percent to 91 percent, and its popularity giving birth to spinoffs, mobile games, manga, and various merchandise.
