Alligator Found in Connecticut Apartment by Shocked Police Officers
Police officers received the shock of their lives in Connecticut when they arrived at an apartment to resolve a “minor dispute,” only to find a 4-foot alligator in the apartment as a family pet.
Police announced Wednesday that officers were called to a Ferry Street apartment following a call reporting that someone was trying to kick down an apartment door demanding money.
That person was quickly arrested, but a more alarming situation soon arose when the 4-foot long alligator was found living in the city center apartment; one of New Haven's most densely populated neighborhoods.

Alligators are not illegal to own, even in town apartments, in Connecticut.
The resident relinquished the alligator willingly, and DEEP wildlife officers were called out to the apartment to assist the police officers.
The alligator is to be taken to a wildlife sanctuary in Florida.
Connecticut updated its laws just two years ago to ban the private ownership of primates weighing 35 pounds or more at maturity. The legislation was brought in after the famous case of Charla Nash, a Stamford woman who was attacked by a friend’s 200-pound chimpanzee.
Bears and wolves were included in the legislation, but alligators were left out.
