AMA 2013 Recap: Stars Hit the Red Carpet, Justin Timberlake Wins Big (PHOTOS)
Today's biggest stars in music stepped out for the American Music Awards last night in Los Angeles, Calif. including Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, and Lady Gaga.
Ahead of the annual awards show, nominees and performers alike hit the red carpet including the night's opening performer, Katy Perry.
The singer wore a floor-length black gown featuring a polka-dot and floral pattern when she discussed the significance of the AMA Awards.
"I appreciate all the other awards shows for what they are," she told Mail Online. "Some are just kind of shock jock shows. Some are just like, 'Hey, let's see how many celebrities we can get together.' Some are actually legitimate like the Grammys, and the AMAs is a very legitimate show with musicality to it."
Taylor Swift wowed fans with a belted mini-dress decked in gold sparkles at the AMAs, while Miley Cyrus opted for a somewhat modest white pantsuit featuring a low-cut blazer on the red carpet.
The show was kicked off by Katy Perry who dressed as a traditional geisha while performing her latest single, "Unconditional," from her album Prism.
Then, once the AMAs got underway, Justin Timberlake picked up an impressive three AMAs- Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Soul/R&B Album and Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist.
During a heartfelt moment, Rihanna's mother Monica presented her with the first-ever AMA Icon Award.
Other big winners of the night included Taylor Swift who picked up the Artist of the Year Award and three others, while Ariana Grande received the New Artist of the Year award. One Direction and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis went home with two awards apiece.
