Amanda Knox Submits Final Appeal to Italy's Supreme Court, New Film About Murder in Production by BBC

The murder of Meredith Kercher has become an inspiration for BBC to create a film, but Amanda Knox's lawyers have threatened to sue if the film goes out. The film has already won the approval of Meredith's family and is to star Kate Beckinsale and Cara Delevingne.

The film will be based on the book "Angel Face" written by CNN journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau. Nadeau was the one who covered the murder of Kercher in 2007 at the hilltop university town of Perugia.

Kercher, then 21, was found in the cottage she shared with Amanda Knox -- half-naked and her throat slit. Knox had been the first to tip the police to the crime but she was then labeled as a prime suspect. Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito served four years in jail for murder and was then released on appeal in 2011. The pair were then re-convicted earlier this year.

Being an American, Knox is technically at large in the U.S. and is appealing to Italy's Supreme Court. If she loses her final appeal she will become a fugitive and the subject of a high profile extradition issue.

With regarding the film's release, Knox's lawyer Luciano Ghirga said that he would be pressing charges if the film was damaging to his client's image since the case was still ongoing. Ghirga still hasn't seen it but he implied that "knowing the author -- it implies that Amanda is guilty."

There have already been two films and 12 books about the case. The writer of BBC's new film insists that it does not "place the knife in Knox's hand."
