Amanda Knox Case Update: Decision on Knox Being Guilty or Innocent to Be Made March 2015?
It has been seven years since Meredith Kercher was found murdered in the home that she shared with Amanda Knox and other students. Italian prosecutors believed that the crime was committed by Knox, her then-boyfriend Raffaelle Sollecito and Rudy Guede. Though Knox and Sollecito were both convicted and served almost four years in prison, an appeal trial freed the two of them. Knox was able to return to the U.S., where she awaits another ruling on her reinstated murder conviction while trying to live a normal life in Seattle. She is currently working as a writer for the West Seattle Herald.
Now, a petition is circulating by supporters of Knox for a formal inquiry into the Meredith Kercher case. The petition, which was posted on the Ground Report, is part of an article that claims that Knox was a victim of a "witch hunt" initiated by Perugian prosecutor Giuliano Mignini.
According to the Ground Report, Mignini was facing charges for abuse of office relating to his "Narducci Trail" investigations. Both he and his colleague, Michele Giuttari, were indicted after Mignini had Mario Spezi arrested and briefly imprisoned in connection to the "Monster of Florence" crimes. However, Spezi was released just three weeks later, after a media campaign by his writing partner Douglas Preston.
The report goes on to claim that instead of backing off, Mignini continued to pursue cases which reeked of Satanism and that the Perugian prosecutor at first tried to link Kercher's murder to "rites related to Halloween." The article claims that Knox and Sollecito's conviction were rigged from the start so Mignini could save face and continue to be seen as credible.
Depending on the ruling, which could be made as early as March 2015, it remains to be seen if the petition will make any impact on the case, and whether Knox will walk free or be extradited back to prison.
