Amazon is Working on Smart Glasses That Supports AI Alexa

Amazon is expected to launch a pair of all-new smart glasses that will work with their artificially intelligent assistant named Alexa.

In an exclusive report from the Financial Times, sources "familiar" with Amazon's plans claim that the e-commerce giant is well on its way to expand its lineup of technology products supported by Alexa. And one of the latest innovations that they could be launching soon is their first pair of smart glasses.

According to the tip, these Alexa-powered smart glasses will be designed to be just like typical eyeglasses so its users can wear them without any hassle. It will reportedly connect wirelessly to smartphones and will allow users to ask for Alexa's help anytime. With that, Alexa can be tasked to make a phone call or search for something on the internet by just wearing the unreleased eyeglasses.

On top of that, Amazon is reportedly planning to incorporate bone-conduction technology into the wearable device. This will allow users to listen to music or any audio without actually wearing any kind of wireless earphones. Check the video above to have an idea how this innovation works.

The bone-conduction technology will allow the person wearing the eyeglasses to listen to Alexa's answers or notifications on-the-go without having to shut out everything else in their surroundings.

Amazon declined to provide a comment to Financial Times, but if this wearable does exist in the pipeline, it will not be the first pair of smart glasses to be offered on the consumer-level market.

Back in 2012, Google introduced the same kind of device. While it sported a lot of technological innovations at the time, the market response was apparently underwhelming. Amazon is taking a great risk in trying to venture to a new consumer product that has proven to be a hard sell.

On the other hand, the Financial Times' unnamed sources also spilled that Amazon is gearing up to launch another Alexa-powered product in the form of a home-security camera system that can be linked to other Alexa-powered devices. This means users with Echo Show can ask Alexa to flash to the screen certain parts of their home at any given time or remotely check whoever is knocking on their doors.

Either or both rumored products could be launched later in 2017 along with other updates to the Echo devices.
