Amazon Kindle Fire Release: Successor to Hit Stores Next Year

Amazon is working on its successor to the Kindle Fire tablet set to have an 8.9-inch display.

“Word on the street this morning is that Amazon is set to introduce a third model in their Android-based tablet line in the New Year,” said technology website AndroidGuys last week.

This new device is expected to drop before the rumored 10.1-inch quad-core Hollywood tablet and will sport a slightly smaller display at 8.9-inches.

Both of these larger models could up end being strong competitors for the iPad, because the Kindle Fire that hit stores today is already making headlines with analysts calling it the first true threat to Apple in the tablet market.

With the Fire's low $199 sticker, it undercuts the iPad in price and its 7-inch display makes it more compact and convenient for on-the-go tablet users.

An 8.9-inch model could also be produced by Amazon to compete against Barnes and Noble’s Nook tablet line.

Amazon can offer a cheaper alternative to the Nook that also sports a larger screen.

This tablet should hit the market sometime in the first half of 2012, according to AndroidGuys.

The 10-inch Hollywood tablet is expected to go into production in the first quarter of 2012.

Foxconn is rumored to be producing the Hollywood tablet for Amazon, a company that also manufactures numerous Apple products.

This Hollywood tablet will include a quad-core processor making it one of the first to possess this type of chip, joining the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime.

The upcoming ASUS Padphone, along with the iPhone 5 is also expected to have quad-core chips when they are released.

The iPhone 5 should hit the market sometime next year, according to Apple insiders.
