Amber Portwood- 'Jail Has Really Paid Off'
Amber Portwood has been behind bars for several years now and recently spoke out about her life since being locked up. She revealed that she could be released early instead of serving the entire five-year sentence.
Since being in the CLIFF (Clean Lifestyle is Freedom Forever) program behind bars, Portwood has been clean from drugs and alcohol. She previously struggled with both and decided to serve time in jail rather than go to a treatment facility.
"I did my TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education) testing for my GED placement and I did really well. I scored in the advance book, so I was very excited. So now I'm in GED classes on weekdays. I got my scores back and I had college level scores in English. And I got a perfect 12.9 in social studies and science. I have 11 months of GED every Saturday. CLIFF really paid off," Portwood told Radar Online.
Portwood became famous for her appearance on "Teen Mom 2" and then her outlandish behavior, including domestic violence incidents with fiancée Gary Head. He has been bringing their daughter, Leah, to visit on a regular basis so that Portwood is able to spend quality time with her as she grows up.
"Booboo (Leah) sat on my lap the whole time! We were playing games, had a few snacks," Portwood said of her most recent visit. "She's so beautiful. She has long blonde hair down to her butt now, and she's getting tall. I can't wait to get out and spend time with her!"
Portwood has advanced so far in the CLIFF program that she is one of the lead facilitators and helps with the meetings and scheduling for fellow inmates. Her family is incredibly proud of the good work and progress that Portwood is making.
"I am so proud of my sister. I could not be any more proud of her right now!" Portwood's brother, Shawn, said. "She has taken a step in the right direction, and I am glad she was able to do the hardest thing ever to change her life. Her personality has changed, and for the better."
