AMD Vega GPU vs. GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Specs, Price: Benchmark Test Reveals RX Graphics Card Could Beat Nvidia's
After the unveiling of the AMD Vega graphics processing unit (GPU) at the Game Developers Conference, Nvidia answers back with the introduction of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
The latter's performance is marketed as 20- to 45-percent higher than that of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, which means that on paper, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is already more powerful than the AMD Vega.
While information about the specs of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is already out there, details about the AMD Vega's makings remain elusive.
That is until a benchmark test surfaced, which revealed some of the key features and specifications of AMD's new offering. The information gathered there will be used to compare it with its GeForce rival.
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti boasts 11 GB frame buffer that runs at 11 Gbps data speeds using Micron's GDDR5 memory chip. It will also have an increased maximum power rating of 250 Watts churning 11.5 teraflops (TFLOPS).
On top of that, Nvidia bumped up the CUDA cores to 3,584. The graphics card uses a 16-nanometer FinFET technology with 12 billion transistors.
The benchmark test revealed that the AMD Vega will have 8 GB of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) on a 2,048-bit memory. That includes two HMB2 stacks each with 4 GB and 1,024-bit memory interface.
It was also shown to have 4096 Stream Processors, which, if accurate, should trounce that of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
The AMD Vega graphics card will also apparently use 14nm FinFET architecture, which should provide some advantages over the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
The former, however, clocks in a lower thermal design power (TDP) at 225W, which makes it inferior to the latter in this department.
However, the AMD Vega is proving to be a force to be reckoned with as the benchmark test shows it generated 12.5 TFLOPs, as per Wccftech.
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is now available at a price of $699. The AMD Vega is rumored to be released on May 30 at Computex.
