'American Crime' Cast News, Update: 'Bridge' Alum Stephanie Sigman Signed for a Season 2 Recurring Role
A new casting update for the second season of ABC's hit crime-thriller anthology TV series "American Crime" arrives this week indicating the involvement of one "Bridge" star.
The casting report from TV Line said that Stephanie Sigman has been cast in a recurring role as Monica Ava. The site divulged information of the character who is an administrator at a public high school, "whose loyalties and values are put into conflict as she's faced with systemic bias within the school system."
"She is so finely accomplished, and we're amazingly fortunate that she's decided to come directly from a project as substantial as the new Bond film to work with us on something as observant as American Crime. We continue to build the cast, and that really is a testament to the work and commitment of all the actors and artisans with whom we've had the opportunity to work on this program," series creator John Ridley spoke about Sigman (via TV Line).
The actress is meanwhile slated to appear in the upcoming Netflix drama called "Narcos." On the big screen, she will be featured in this fall's outing of "Spectre."
Concerning the show, Ridley spoke with the media outlet in an earlier interview that Season 2's "central will revolve around a high school boy who accuses several players on a championship basketball team at a private school of sexually assaulting him — and taking photos and posting them online."
The said storyline will give the showrunners the freedom to explore deeper into the issues of "social economics, education, as well as sexual orientation."
Returning cast member Timothy Hutton also said, this time in an interview with Variety, that the second installment has a "different take" and a "different feel" than the previous one. Besides the new crime set-up, Hutton revealed that he is also enthused to work with a lot of younger actors.
"American Crime" Season 2 premieres 2016.
