'American Idol' 2013: Jennifer Lopez Not Returning?
Rumors that Jennifer Lopez might return to "American Idol" as a judge appear to be nothing more than rumors. It looks as if Jennifer Lopez will not be returning to the popular singing competition show.
In late May, "knowledgeable sources" apparently said that there were talks in place to replace "Idol" judge Mariah Carey with Jennifer Lopez, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
However, new information seems to imply that there are no such talks in place.
As to the singer and actress returning to the show, a source told E! "it's not happening."
And if an anonymous source's word isn't enough to put these rumors to bed, Lopez herself confirmed when The Washington Post asked her about the potential of her returning to "American Idol."
"That's just a rumor. I don't have any announcement to make on that right now," she said.
Lopez has had her plate full as she has recently become a television executive. She was just appointed chief creative officer of NUVO TV, according to The Washington Post.
While Lopez might not be returning, there have been some shake-ups on the production end of "American Idol." An announcement was made last week that producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick are leaving the singing competition show. Per Blankens was announced as a new producer of Fox's "American Idol," Monday the LA Times reported.
Lythgoe will still be involved with music based competition shows, as he is a producer for the dancing competition show, "So You Think You Can Dance."
