'American Idol' Season 15 News: Sonika Vaid Proves She's Made of Winner Material
The first 12 out of 24 contestants performed on last night's "American Idol" episode, and it was Sonika Vaid who proved that she can win the whole thing.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sonika sang Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars' "Safe and Sound," and it was technically unbelievable. The website said that her performance was very emotional, which judge Harry Connick Jr. agreed. However, Sonika is urged to show more versatility in her next song choices since she has already shown she an incredible tone and pitch. Despite some small criticisms, Sonika just proved last night that she can be the last "American Idol" winner.
The other standouts last night were Mackenzie Bourg, Jenna Renae, Gianna Isabella, Avalon Young, and Thomas Stringfellow. Mackenzie sang "Say Something" by A Great Big World, and the judges thought that he showcased his artistry through the song. Jenna stood out with her song "My Church" by Maren Morris, and the judges said that they are excited to see the other sides of her singing skill.

Gianna was said to be captivating during her performance, while Avalon gave one of the best performances of the night when she sang "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber. "You had the whole audience in the palm of your hand the second you opened your mouth," judge Jennifer Lopez said. Thomas sang "Creep" by Radiohead, and the judges thought it was a tremendous performance, and one of his best during the whole competition.
Among those who the judges were not so sold by their performances were Stephany Negrete, Jeneve Rose Mitchell, James VII, Emily Brooke, and Jordan Sasser.
The last performer of the night was La'Porsha Renae, and the belter sang "Proud Mary." The show ended with a great note with her powerful performance, and the judges agree that the remaining 12 singers that will sing tonight have a lot to prove with La'Porsha setting the bar high.
