Amir Khan: 'Pacquiao Doesn't Want to Fight Me'
Following months of talks and rumors that Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao will probably get in the ring next year, a frustrated Khan has revealed that the Filipinos' champ doesn't want to fight him.
Khan has been open about his desires to fight Pacquiao, speculating that the bout would be his last. However, it seems the much-awaited battle will not happen after all. The Briton told BBC Sports, "It just seems Pacquiao doesn't want to fight me."
The 28-year-old boxer seemed frustrated when he explained that his team had been trying to get into an agreement with Pacquiao's but they never came to a settlement. He made it clear that he has no plans of waiting for a promise that will never come true after all, just as Floyd Mayweather Jr. had done.
Although victorious over Chris Algieri in June, Khan was turned down by Mayweather, a decision that the boxer from Bolton sees as a failed promise. He noted that he does not want to waste any more time since he has "other targets."
He is reportedly looking forward to getting rematches with Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson. Peterson won over him on points four years back, while Garcia stopped his tracks during the fourth round of their match last year that claimed Khan's third loss in his boxing career.
Another possible opponent according to Khan is Kell Brook, who called on him during an IBF meeting. The former two-time light-welterweight world champ said Brook is one of the main guys his team would be eyeing for his next fight.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao is said to be setting his goals on a rematch with Mayweather, though many speculate that the rematch may never happen since Mayweather has announced retirement following his victory over Andre Berto.
Also, Pacquaio's next fight is most probably his last, as Bob Arum has put it. According to the Los Angeles Times, Arum said Pacquiao knows he can't really it two birds with one stone when he becomes senator.
