Amy Schumer News: "Hamilton" Bartender Gets $1,000 Tip From Amy Schumer
Comedian Amy Schumer recently gave back in a big way to the bartender who waited on her while she was watching the Broadway hit show "Hamilton" at the Richard Rodgers Theater in New York last March 20. According to a report in CNN, the comedian gave her bartender a $1,000 tip for a tab that was only $77. She was watching the show with a group of friends including her boyfriend Ben Hanisch Sunday night.
The report mentioned that Schumer was enjoying her night out with friends, posting several Instagram photos before the show started and after. She however did not post anything about her big tip to the bartenders in the theater bar.
News about what she did only came out after one of the barters, Madeleine DeJohn, posted an Instagram photo of the receipt, which indicated the $1,000 tip on top of the $77 tab that the comedian paid. Another bartender, Sara Laursen, posted a thank-you Tweet to Schumer, thanking her for "making our night" referring to the rest of the bartenders present that night.
Madeleine DeJohn told New York Daily News that this was not the first time the actress-comedy did something like this. According to the report, the last time Schumer was at the bar, she left an $80 tip for a $40 tab. When DeJohn went up to thank her, Schumer simply said, "I've been there. I get it." Schumer herself had been through jobs like bar tending before she made it big, so she can relate to what DeJohn was going through. DeJohn incidentally is a struggling actress looking for her break.
Schumer made a name for herself first in stand-up comedy, particularly with Comedy Central. In 2013, she did her first sketch comedy series on Comedy Central, "Inside Amy Schumer" which has been renewed for its fourth season this year. Her first feature film, "Trainwreck" was released in 2015. Also in 2015, her comedy special "Amy Schumer Live at the Apollo" started airing on HBO.
