An actual presidential campaign and caucus in Season 7 of 'The Good Wife'

Season 7 of "The Good Wife" will be weaving in a political drama after the Governor of Illinois, Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) makes the decision to run for President against Hillary Clinton! Season 7's presidential election campaign's storyline will actually mirror the official primary timeline to coincide with the Iowa Caucus.

The Executive Producer of "The Good Wife," Robert King, is thrilled with this "bold storyline" that CBS is allowing them to do. According to TV Line, he says, "If Peter runs, he is running against Hillary." He also thinks it's "amazing" that CBS is agreeing to it. He adds, "We're trying to parallel what's happening on our show with what's happening in reality."

Things will begin to heat up in the premiere episode when Peter hires a new strategist for his election campaign. This new character will be played by Emmy winner Margo Martindale, who will be joining the cast of "The Good Wife" as a series regular. Her character will clash with Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) and give him lots of stress and headaches.

Not only are all these new things happening, but Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) makes the decision to start a new law firm and in this, she will be helped by none other than her rival of so many seasons, Louis Canning, played by Michael J. Fox. Will Alicia say "yes" to this new partnership? Apparently, in the premiere episode titled, "Grunts", Alicia will align herself with Louis' wife Simone Canning, played by Susan Misner.

Alicia is trying desperately to up her law career by taking on the cases of arrestees who want to be represented in bond court seeking release on bail. Here too she has a new antagonist in the form of a rival lawyer, Lucca Quinn, who is after the same clients.

Alicia is also keeping up an appearance of a good marriage to help husband Peter in his presidential campaign. There is a scene where she appears on a morning show with Peter.

Alicia seems to have her plate full. Fans are eagerly waiting for the new season to unfold. The season starts airing on October 4.
