"RIP to Mrs. Benjamin who passed on her son's bday… Prayers to Andre 3000 and the rest of the fam," wrote Bam. "Warm hearted leaving a great legacy."

BET wrote, "Rapper Andrew 3000's mother has reportedly passed away. We send our heartfelt condolences to both him & his family."

Andre 3000 is a member of the hip hop duo Outkast along with Antwan "Big Boi" Patton. Outkast is known for their unique blend of funk, soul, rock, electronic music, and lyrics, and they have produced number one singles such as "Hey Ya!" "The Way You Move," and "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below," among others.

Not only was Benjamin-Hodo an important part of Andre 3000's life, but she also played a pivotal role in her son's career.

Known as "Ma Benjamin B" as well as "Nana," Andre's mother helped launch Outkast into the music scene during the early '90's and served as the group's manager, according to Us Weekly.

Today, Outkast is on an indefinite hiatus. However, Andrew 3000 has recently appeared on Frank Ocean's album "Channel Orange," among other projects.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, the family is asking for support for The Starlight Camp foundation, according to Billboard. Founded by Benjamin-Hodo, Starlight Camp benefits underprivileged children.
