Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich Device Updates Round-up
The time seems to have finally arrived when Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will start rolling out for smartphones and tablets other than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Motorola, HTC and Samsung have all recently released information regarding the release of these upgrades that fans have been waiting for patiently since the software launched back in November of last year.
The most popular of all the smartphones that will receive the upgrade to Android 4.0 is the Samsung Galaxy S2. This device was announced back in Nov. to be getting Ice Cream Sandwich and the company recently stated that owners of the smartphone that live in Poland, Hungary and Sweden would all be getting the upgrade this week.
Other devices made by Samsung to get Ice Cream Sandwich include the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, 8.9 and 10.1.
Motorola also announced that its famed Droid Razr smartphone would be receiving the upgrade to ICS in places overseas including the Asia Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Korea, Japan, China and Canada during the next few months.
The company is still in the middle of "evaluation and planning" for releasing the upgrade to customers in the U.S. Motorola's Xoom tablet is one of the few devices to have already received ICS.
HTC also chose to reveal the devices it would be upgrading to Ice Cream Sandwich in the near future. The company listed over 15 devices that included the Droid Incredible 2, Amaze 4G, Evo 3D, Evo Design 4G, Sensation 4G, HTC Rezound, Rhyme, Thunderbolt, and Vivid. However, HTC did not provide any information on the dates when these upgrades will begin to roll out.
Android 4.0 is the latest version of Google's operating software. It runs on both tablets and smartphones and includes the graphics foundation system known as Roboto along with many other useful upgrades.
