In order to access the update, users must visit the LG update tool immediately. However, it is only available for the unlocked versions of the smartphone at this time. Customers who own the device through a carrier will have to wait a bit longer.

The LG Optimus 2X launched in February of 2011 with Android 2.2 Froyo pre-installed.

It features both GSM and 3G connectivity and measures in at 123.9 x 63.2 x 10.9, weighing 139 grams.

Other specifications on the Optimus 2X include a 4-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels constructed with Gorilla Glass. It also comes with 32GB of internal memory and can be expanded with the use of its microSD card slot.

It runs a dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 chip and comes with a front 1.3-megapixel camera, and an 8-megapixel shooter in the rear.

Other interesting features on the device include its HDMI port and social networking integration.

This is obviously a fairly old device with some impressive specifications for its time.

LG has already started working on a new version of the smartphone called the Optimus G2 which is due out next year and will run Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie.

This news was reported by Korean Media, but still has not been confirmed by LG or Google.
