Android 4.4.2 Update Rolls Out for HTC One and LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Editions

The Android 4.4.2 update began rolling out for the HTC One and LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Editions earlier this week.

The software updates for both devices are currently available OTA (over-the-air). Users who haven't received a notification for it can manually check for updates in the Settings menu. It is 52MB and is basically the same as the Android 4.4.2 build that hit other Nexus devices earlier in the month.

HTC began posting the kernel source and framework support files for the HTC One Google Play edition yesterday and soon after that, it started rolling out to the device. Android 4.4.2 is still not available on the Galaxy S4 Google Play edition, but it should be arriving sometime soon.

This is the second KitKat update to roll out this month as the Nexus 5 already received the Android 4.4.1 firmware which brought fixes to the device's camera. Some of the users of these other devices probably will not receive Android 4.4.1, but will skip to Android 4.4.2 instead.

The changelog reveals the improvements brought to the handset with the software including a fix for clearing the VM indicator, a fix for delivery of the VM indicator, software fixes, and security enhancements.

The LG G Pad 8.3 GPe was released this week for U.S. customers in the Google Play store. There is no word on when it will launch in the rest of the world.

The new tablet features a Full HD display that is around an inch bigger than the Nexus 7 and at 273 ppi, its resolution is slightly less impressive than Google and Asus's collaboration. Other features include a Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB or RAM and a 4,600 mAh battery.

The HTC One GPe launched in the Spring shortly after the original version.
