Android 4.4 KitKat Update Now Available for HTC One, Xperia Z and Sprint Galaxy Nexus

Android 4.4 KitKat ROMs are now available for the HTC One, Xperia Z and the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint.

Developer Stephen Bird launched a fully working AOSP KitKat ROM that will work on the AT&T, T-Mobile and international versions of the HTC One. Bird claims his ROM uses binaries from the One's Android 4.3 update but performs very stable for an early build. The only feature that doesn't work is the IR blaster.

The Sony Xperia Z also has a new KitKat ROM available that was created by XDA Senior Member pabx. This one is a pure AOSP build with neither recovery nor root. Aside from a few minor bugs, the ROM is quite stable, according to the developer.

There is also a ROM available for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus that was released by XDA Senior Member nonlinuxparty. This build is also AOSP and features a few modifications in order to get it working.

The camera doesn't seem to work when this ROM is installed, according to Android Authority. There are also some small graphical glitches and some GPS issues. The build is not running that smoothly at this time and shouldn't be installed by those who use their Galaxy Nexus on a daily basis.

More information on the HTC ROM can be obtained through Rootz Wiki. The Xperia Z and Sprint versions could be found in the XDA Developer's Forums through a simple search.

Android 4.4 KitKat was introduced by Google last week alongside the brand new Nexus 5 smartphone.

The software is designed to be installed on a wide range of devices including older models that only have 512MB RAM.

"KitKat streamlines every major component to reduce memory use and introduces new APIs and tools to help you create innovative, responsive, memory-efficient applications," said Google on its developer's website.
