Android 4.4 KitKat Update Release for LG G2 Set for March

The Android 4.4 update release for the LG G2 will be available at the end of March for Canadian users.

A representative for LG Canada recently confirmed to tech publication Mobile Syrup that the software will hit the smartphone sometime at the end of Q1 2014.

The update should be available at the same time for most major carriers in the nation including Rogers, Telus, Wind, SaskTel and Videotron if everything goes to plan. However, each of those companies will still release the software in phases.

The LG G2 launched in the fall of this year in the U.S. and Canada and is also available through AT&T and Verizon.

The handset features some impressive specs including a 5.2-inch full HD display, a 13-megapixel rear camera, 2GB of RAM, a microSD slot, a 3,000mAh battery, on screen navigation keys, and Android 4.2.2 with LG's custom skin. The LG G2 will also be the world's first worldwide-launching smartphone running the Snapdragon 800 processor.

Android 4.4 KitKat debuted on the Nexus 5 and was created to be installed on all sorts of Google OS devices including those with low-end specifications.

"KitKat streamlines every major component to reduce memory use and introduces new APIs and tools to help you create innovative, responsive, memory-efficient applications," said Google on its developer's website.

The software is designed to protect system memory from apps consuming large amounts of RAM. Android will launch the services serially, or in small groups in order to avoid peak memory demands.

New features on the OS include enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, and an improved phone app with the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad.

The camera will gain a touch to focus feature as well.
