Android 4.4 KitKat Update Rolling out for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z
The Android 4.4 KitKat update is now rolling out for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z.
Sony started pushing out the software earlier this week. The update will bring better overall performance and UI optimization to each of these devices.
The new UI features PS4-style launch animation, live wallapapers and a new, revamped Status and Quick Settings bar that allows users to customize to better keep tabs on their notifications.
Several of Sony's apps including Messaging, Email, Smart Social camera, and Battery Stamina mode will be revamped with the update with refreshed animations, smoother operation, and small functionality additions.
The Xperia Themes customization center will also be available once the new software is downloaded.
Other Sony devices such as the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 will start receiving KitKat in May.
The Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone will launch unlocked on Verizon this summer.
A recently leaked photo featured the handset with Verizon branding and had fans of the device thinking that it might be coming soon. Verizon attempted to clarify the issues brought forth with the image with Android Authority and confirmed the actual release date while doing so.
"A mock-up image was mistakenly posted to the Sony Mobile Google+page. The image has since been removed and we apologize for any confusion this may have caused," wrote the company to Android Authority. "For our U.S. customers eager to find out more information about the availability of Xperia Z2, we are excited to share that the device will be coming to the U.S. unlocked this summer."
Information on the specs and hardware for the Sony Xperia Z2 were first revealed by Sony at this year's Mobile World Congress press conference.
The new Sony flagship handset comes with a design close to its predecessor, however, it will feature improved software and hardware that makes it a good buy, according to the company.
