Android 4.4 KitKat Update Scheduled to Roll Out for Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Compact
The Android 4.4 KitKat update will roll out for the Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Compact this week.
Sony announced that it will begin issuing the update for these devices sometime today and it should already be available in certain areas.
KitKat will bring these Sony devices up to date with some of the others including the Xperia Z2. It will bring performance and software optimizations along with Sony's UI tweaks and customized options.
Sony's native apps that will be tweaked include Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, and TrackID. The company will also be integrating WALKMAN, Album and Movie apps with its cloud service.
Sony's plans to roll out KitKat to the original Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z and the Xperia ZR in the middle of Q2 this year. A similar update will be released for the Xperia T2 Ultra, E1 and M2. Sony will detail the features and dates for these devices closer to the update's release.
Sony will launch the Xperia Z2 smartphone this month.
The device comes with a design close to its predecessor, however, it features improved software and hardware that will make it a good buy.
Specs on the device include a 5.2-inch Full HD Live Color LED Display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB RAM, 4K video capture, Digital noise canceling technology, 3200 mAh battery, a waterproof and dustproof body, 4G LTE support and Android 4.4 KitKat integrated with Sony features.
Sony promises that its noise cancelation technology will help reduce up to 98 percent of ambient noise when used with their compact in-ear MDR NC31EM Noise Canceling Headset.
