Android 4.4, KitKat Update Spotted Running on a Nexus 4

Pictures of a Nexus 4 running the Android 4.4, KitKat update surfaced on the internet earlier this week.

The tipster who sent the images to three sites including Android Authority, 9to5Google and Android Police revealed some information regarding the features found on the new software.

Android 4.4 will come with flat icons, semitransparent navigation & status bar, top right icons that change colors, a different lockscreen, background apps, and redesigned phones apps.

The images look legit at first glance, however, upon further examination various inconsistencies can be found.

The first image shows the homescreen of Android 4.4 with the stock wallpaper and the translucent notification bars and a set of flat icons in the dock. This could be easily faked. Google appears to be moving towards a flatter design throughout its offerings, from the Search page, to Google Now, and Android.

The tipster also claims that the battery, signal, and wireless icons change their color to match the predominant color of the app in focus. However, it is unclear why the clock stays white during those transitions. That is a bit inconsistent with a true update. The notification bar in the messaging app looks to be solid green when the background of the navigation buttons is solid black on the dialer app and translucent on others.

A "K" icon could be found on the left hand side of the notification bar that differs from the Key Lime Pie debug icon that has been seen in previous leaks. Some of the leaks that used KLP were legit since the company used it as a temporary name before KitKat was unveiled so the difference could just be inconsistencies with the legitimate and fake versions of the software.

This could end up being a leak of a ROM as opposed to the actual update.
