Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Release Date Set for Q4 2013
The Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie release date will be sometime during the fourth quarter of this year.
The software was originally expected to debut at this year's Google I/O, but a recent interview with the new head of Android Sundar Pichai points to Google holding off on introducing Key Lime Pie until Q4 2013.
Pichai spoke to Wired regarding Google I/O and judging from some of his comments, a brand new build of Android will probably not be introduced during the conference. He explained that this year's event will be a bit different from previous Google I/Os as the company will not be introducing that many new products.
The main focus of this year's I/O will be aimed towards what Google is doing for developers to allow them to write better programs for their Android and Chrome software. Google will also showcase some of the "amazing things" it is doing with both of these platforms.
Earlier reports have also confirmed that Google will not be introducing a brand new build of the software. Instead, the company will release an update for JellyBean, bringing it up to Android 4.3.
The version of JellyBean has already showed up on Android related websites this month such as 9to5 Google. Android Authority also reported on sightings of Android 4.3, JellyBean last week.
A Reddit user recently informed the site that the next major build of Android has been showing up in logs and reports as Android 4.3 JWR23B. Android builds normally appear in logs with their numbers followed by their letters.
These sightings of the software apparently came from a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 4 being used by Google employees, according to AndroidCommunity. The site believes that the recent Android 5.0.1, Key Lime Pie sighting on the Motorola X smartphone.
