Android 5.0 Lollipop: Update Dates for Nexus, Samsung, HTC as well as Sony Devices
Some consumers are still awaiting the release of Google's latest operating system, the Android 5.0 Lollipop, and with so many devices out in the market, anticipation is high for when the update becomes available for handheld devices.
Google has released two new Android updates in the past few months, the Android 5.0 Lollipop, which was a major update that overhauled all Android operating systems, and the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, which was a follow-up fixer-upper for the bugs that plagued the Lollipop.
With already two releases, consumers want to know when they will get a chance to finally try out the Lollipop, with updates breakdown being listed on websites such as Gotta Be Mobile, Tech Radar, Android Pit and more.
When it comes to Google phones, it's a mix for Nexus users. The Lollipop comes already installed on the Nexus 6 and 9, and now it is available for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus owners are out of luck as the Lollipop will not be released in these variations.
It's even more of a mix for Samsung smartphone owners. The Galaxy S5 already has the Lollipop update, while the Galaxy Note 4 will be available by the end of the year, while the Galaxy Note 3 will come by January next year. The update for the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition is expected to come soon, though no date has been set, while the Galaxy S4 is set to come by the end of the year.
For HTC owners, there have been promises for a Lollipop update to the HTC One mini, HTC One mini 2 and HTC One Max, but so far no dice. The Lollipop is rolling out to the HTC One Google Play Edition and HTC One M8 Google Play Edition. The HTC One and the HTC One M8 receives the Lollipop within 80 days of receiving the Lollipop source code released on Nov. 3.
For Sony phones, most of the updates are coming at the beginning of 2015, though when exactly has not been stated. Next year the Lollipop will come to the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet, while the Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition is expected to see the update very soon.
