Android 6.0 Update for Sony Xperia Z5 May Be Out This Month

Sony Xperia Z5 users are still waiting for an official announcement from the company regarding their Android 6.0 update. Recent reports suggest the update could come very soon.

A report from Mobipicker states that the Marshmallow update for the Sony Xperia Z5 and Z4 has been certified by the Wi-Fi alliance. As a result, the publication states that Sony will roll out the update to Sony Xperia phones this month.

The publication has pegged the Android 6.0 update for Sony Xperia Z5 to the middle of February. The report adds that the smartphone, along with the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and Z5 Compact, will be the first batch of Sony phones to receive the Marshmallow update. Meanwhile, the Xperia Z2, Z3, and Z4 will be the next batch of smartphones to receive the update at a later time.

Sony is currently conducting beta testing on its Marshmallow Concept, its concept beta version of the update. Marshmallow Concept is available to select smartphones only including Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

In October, Sony announced it is "working hard" to bring the major update as quickly as it can to as many devices as possible. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will bring new features and functionality, as well as improvements in user experience.

The Sony devices that have been confirmed to receive the update are as follows:

  • Xperia Z5
  • Xperia Z5 Compact
  • Xperia Z5 Premium
  • Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Xperia Z3+
  • Xperia Z3
  • Xperia Z3 Compact
  • Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
  • Xperia Z2
  • Xperia Z2 Tablet
  • Xperia M5
  • Xperia C5 Ultra
  • Xperia M4 Aqua
  • Xperia C4

Unlike Sony, Motorola, LG, and HTC have already started rolling out the update to their respective smartphones. Whether or not the Android 6.0 for Sony Xperia Z5 and other Sony devices will arrive this month remains to be seen as Sony has not yet issued an official announcement regarding the same.
