Android Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade Goes to Top Smartphones

Verizon recently confirmed the December launch of the Galaxy Nexus which means that Android fans will finally get their hands on a device running the new Android 4.0 next month.

However, the Galaxy Nexus is one of many smartphones that will use ICS with many other great options for Android fans looking to have the new software.

Several handset manufacturers have confirmed which models will be able to upgrade to the new operating system.

For HTC device owners, the Vivid, Sensation, Amaze 4G, Rezound and the HTC Evo will all receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

Sony Ericson also released a list of smartphones to get ICS, but most models announced are not available on United States carriers.

However, Sony's Xperia Play, available on both AT&T and Verizon can upgrade to the software when it is available.

Motorola has only confirmed that two of its devices including the Droid Razr and Droid Bionic will get Ice Cream Sandwich, but it has not mentioned anything about any of its other smartphones.

Samsung, along with launching the new operating system on the upcoming Galaxy Nexus, has also confirmed that Galaxy S2 owners will also be able to receive the upgrade.

Most technologically affluent smartphone owners can probably figure out a way to port the new system onto almost any handset.

Hackers recently adapted the software to the Samsung Nexus S, a device that goes for $99.99 on most carriers.

Ice Cream Sandwich is sure to make its way to most high-end Android devices.

The top rated Android smartphone seems to be the Motorola Droid Razr that took first place for best smartphones of 2011 on CNet’s list and had the highest rating for devices receiving the ICS update in the future.
