Android Wear 2.0 Release Date and Updates: Google Delays Wearable OS to Early 2017 Release; Major Features You Should Know [DETAILS]

Google is Delaying Android Wear 2.0 Release to Early 2017

Despite the excitement and hype for the Android Wear 2.0, Google will be delaying its release in 2017 instead of this year.

There is no specific date for when the Android Wear 2.0 will be released, but Google did explain the delay. They stated that they need the time to make improvements on the OS version as well as hunt for bugs that may get in the way of a flawless wearable experience.

Android Wear 2.0 Features, News & Updates
Google said on their blog that in order for the Android Wear 2.0 to become a good fit for most wearables, they will continue their Developer Preview 3 until 2017. They noted that they have added Google Play on Android Wear which will make it easier for users of wearables to install apps directly.

The Play Store on Android Wear can be used to look for apps in a number of ways. Wearable users can choose to search for apps using their watch's keyboard, voice, handwriting and recommended queries.

The highlighted advantage that this feature brings in the Android Wear is that users will no longer have to use paired phone apps to be able to use the ones on their wearable if they don't want to. This means that watch-only apps can be directly installed on the wearable without going through the hassle of using a smartphone, making the smartwatch more independent.

Bringing the Play Store specifically for the Android Wear 2.0 is Google's response to customer's demand for easier navigation of their apps in their wearables. While looking for apps in the new Android Wear 2.0 may not be as easy as using a smartphone, Google is continuing to develop the feature.

How to Install Android Wear 2.0
For developers who want to try out the beta version of the Android Wear 2.0, they will need to use their phone to add a Google Account on their wearable in order to fully test it out. They have written a detailed instruction as well as a link to an emulator for those who don't have a watch.

Tech Times noted that the Android Wear 2.0 Preview 3 is limited to certain devices including LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition with LTE and the Huawei Watch. In addition to the Play Store, the Preview 3 also allows testers to look at the new view for the wearable and an easy way to respond for notifications.
