Angelina Jolie Birthday Today, Celebrations Revealed
Angelina Jolie is ringing in her 38th birthday today and has a lot to celebrate this year. The Oscar-winning actress is a mother of six and is engaged to longtime partner Brad Pitt. Currently, Jolie is working on another directorial project; the high-profile film "Unbroken."
Despite her professional and familial accomplishments, it is the actress' health that has captured global attention over the past year. Last month, Jolie revealed that she had undergone a double mastectomy as a means to prevent breast cancer. Cancer runs in Jolie's family, as her mother died of ovarian cancer. Consequently, Jolie was heralded for her bravery in opening up about the preventative surgery.
As for Jolie's birthday celebrations, a source close to the Jolie-Pitts revealed that the couple enjoyed a night out on Monday. After attending the premiere of Pitt's "World War Z," the couple headed to Paris' Il Vino-- a restaurant that specializes in wine.
"They loved the place," the insider added, according to ABC News. Jolie and Pitt looked "very relaxed."
"They had a very nice time," the source said of the multi-course meal, which included red and white wines paired with a chef's choice of meat and fish.
As for Jolie's actual birthday on Tuesday, Pitt revealed that they would be celebrating "in the air."
"Every year is special," said the actor during his red carpet appearance at the Paris premiere of "Word War Z," according to People.com. "This year isn't any more special than other years," Pitt continued. "We're going to celebrate in the air with the kids because we're going to [Berlin]."
Meanwhile, Jolie's current project, "Unbroken," will follow the extraordinary life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete who went on to become a prisoner of war during WWII.
"[Zamperini] is a true hero and a man with an immense humanity, faith, and courage," Jolie said in a statement when she was named director of the film, according to E! News.
"I am deeply honored to have the chance to tell his inspiring story," the 38-year-old actress added.
Universal executives explained last year that Jolie had campaigned for the directorial position against a number of other directors.
"In her life and in her work, Angelina has embraced stories and causes involving great struggle and triumph over tremendous odds and the basic human condition," said executives Adam Fogelson and Donna Langley in a statement.
"She has a real ability to illustrate the strength in human spirit which will be essential in telling Lou's story of survival and great heroism," they added.
