Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt Snub Modern Education, Opt to Homeschool
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has defended her parenting technique, which has been criticized by some for making her children travel the globe with her instead of sending them to school. She fought back by saying that the modern-day education system is such a mess that her children are better off being homeschooled and travelling the world with her.
Jolie, and partner Brad Pitt, have six children; Maddox, 9; Pax, 7; Zahara, 6; Shiloh, 5 and 2-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Instead of giving the children a permanent school location, Jolie chooses to hire private tutors and homeschool them.
Currently starring in Kung Fu Panda 2, Jolie insists that her methods of raising the children are far more educational than the current school systems on offer.
She told to The Independent: “I do think we live in a different age and the education system hasn't caught up with our children and our way of life.”
She explained: “But we travel and I'm the first person to say, ‘Get the school work done as quickly as possible because let's go out and explore’.
“Instead of tomfoolery in the class room, I'd rather them go to a museum and learn to play guitar and read and pick a book they love.”
Brad Pitt agreed in a 2009 interview when talking about how the couple takes care of their children’s educational needs: “We're in an international program, so wherever we go it's the same curriculum.”
The Jolie-Pitt clan have subscribed to the French schooling system, the “Lycée program”, which operates in cities including New York, Prague and Venice. They receive classes through nannies and specialist tutors.
