Angelina Jolie Buys Brad Pitt $19 Million Heart-Shaped Island for 50th Birthday? (VIDEO)
Angelina Jolie will reportedly spend in excess of $19 million on a heart-shaped Island in honor of her fiance Brad Pitt's 50th birthday.
The Academy award-winning actress, 38, is believed to have paid a recent visit to Petra Island, located in Lake Mahopac, New York, after discovering its two sprawling properties were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, who is Pitt's favorite architect. On Dec. 18, Pitt will mark his milestone birthday and Jolie is expected to present him with the lavish gift.
"As soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed. The house is perfect for romantic getaways or as a family retreat," a source told the Daily Mirror U.K.
"It's very private and Angelina knows the fact the island is in the shape of a heart will mean so much to him," the source explained.
The 11-acre Island boasts panoramic views, a helicopter pad, the famous Massaro house and a cottage. It is located off the US coast, approximately 50 miles north of Manhattan.
Pitt will no doubt make use of the high-tech helicopter pad, as it was previously claimed that Jolie splurged on a $1 million luxury helicopter for his 49th birthday.
"They've had a helicopter pad installed in the grounds of their south of France home, Chateau Miraval. So Ange thought it would be nice to buy Brad a helicopter as a surprise present," a source told The Sun U.K. In 2012.
"In particular, they would like to be able to fly to and from Cannes. But even though Brad has his private pilot's license, he still needs to take a few flying lessons – which he'll start straight away," the source added.
Jolie also has her pilot's license, although she once confirmed that she is not yet ready to begin flying the family.
"Brad has his pilot's license and I just got my instrument rating, so we're moving forward with that but we haven't had a lot of time because of the kids ... I wouldn't fly the kids at this moment. I would only fly the kids if I had been actively flying for a few months and when I'm not at all rusty," Jolie told reporters at the exclusive Hotel du Cap in 2007.
The Hollywood couple, who got engaged in 2012, began dating in 2005 and they share six children together Maddox, 11, Pax, 9, Zahara, 8, Shiloh, 7, and two biological children, Knox and Vivienne, 5.
In February Jolie underwent a preventive double mastectomy after learning that she was at risk of developing breast cancer due to a defective BRCA1 gene. The mother of six publicly hailed Pitt for his constant support throughout her ordeal and she is said to be intent on making his 50th unforgettable as a "thank you."
