Angelina Jolie May Return for 'Maleficent 2'

Angelina Jolie may be breaking her no-sequel rule very soon. Disney is planning to develop a sequel to the box office hit "Maleficent" which starred Angelina Jolie as the scorned fairy-turned-witch.

The report said that Linda Woolverton is in talks to pen "Maleficent 2." Woolverton wrote last year's live-action fairy tale hit. According to the report's inside source, Woolverton is going to work on the screenplay with the assumption that Jolie is going to reprise her role as Maleficent.

Jolie, however, has not yet signed on for the sequel, but earlier reports point to a possibility she may reconsider her no-sequel rule. According to a report in Cinema Blend, she had previously turned down sequels for her other successful movies such as "Salt" and "Wanted." Her experience in the "Tomb Raider" franchise is being cited as the reason for her no-sequel rule.

Disney seems to be very sure that Jolie will return. During the first movie's promotional tour, she repeatedly mentioned that the character has been her childhood favorite. She also said at one point that "there might be an opportunity to play her again."

The first film's producer Joe Roth returns to produce the sequel, according to The Wrap. No director is yet tied to movie. As for the other cast members, it is not yet clear whether they are returning for the sequel. This includes Elle Fanning as Aurora, Sam Riley as Diaval, Brenton Thwaites as Prince Phillip, Juno Temple as Thistlewit, Imelda Staunton as Knotgrass and Leslie Manville as Flittle.

The story of Maleficent shows how she became the evil witch. She was a good fairy who watched over Mother Nature together with other supernatural creatures in the forest. A human friend of hers chopped off her wings – he was to become King Stefan. She grew up with rage in her heart and plotted her revenge by placing a curse on the King's firstborn, Aurora. Later on, however, she came to love the child Aurora.
