Anglican Council in Canada Releases Six-Year Framework of Action
The Anglican Church of Canada’s Council of General Synod (CoGS) released a new outline to guide the Church through 2010, during its annual meeting, Nov. 12. Should the framework be approved by the General Synod next spring, it will replace the decade long strategic plan that was approved in 1995.
The seven priorities to be adopted by the new framework are “deepening Anglican identity for mission and servant-hood, nurturing and strengthening Christian communities for local witness, improving communications and story-telling, envisioning the New Agape, building Stewardship and financial capacity, strengthening partnerships in Canada and sustaining international partnerships.”
The CoGS also approved the “hold-the-line” budget used throughout 2003 as the protocol for 2004. The budget will take into account the funds necessary for the upcoming quadrennial consultation where a new Primate will be elected.

In addition, CoGS passed a motion to welcome an “Alternative Dispute Resolution process” to handle claims by former students of native residential schools. The resolution, brought forth by the Canadian government last week, will be forwarded to the Officers of the General Synod for decision by the end of the year.
