Angry Man Allegedly Breaks 4-Week-Old Baby Boy's Leg During Diaper Change Because His X-Box Game Was Interrupted
A 20-year-old man, upset that he had to interrupt his X-Box game to change a 4-week-old baby boy's diaper, allegedly broke the child's leg in protest and has been charged with aggravated child abuse despite saying he didn't mean to do it.
Paul Anthony Lajeunesse of Hernando, Fla., was reportedly arrested Monday for yanking the boy's right leg during the diaper change and causing a fracture in his femur, according to the Citrus Daily which noted that the incident was reported to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 12.
The arrest report explained that the baby boy's maternal grandmother normally takes care of him while his mother attends school and Lajeunesse would help her with the care of the child.
The grandmother said she instructed Lajeunesse on how to properly hold the baby and change his diaper because she thought he held the baby's legs too high during diaper changes. That exchange upset Lajeunesse.
She said on Dec. 11, at about 4:45 p.m. she asked Lajeunesse to change the baby's diaper while he was playing the X-box game and he was angry at the interruption.
Lajeunesse said he went to his room and put the diaper on his bed and when he lifted the child's legs to change the diaper he heard a "pop." He then saw the boy's right leg go limp.
A local doctor later confirmed that the boy's leg was fractured and required surgery. The infant was treated and released from the hospital on Dec. 13 with a waist cast.
On further questioning Sunday, Lajeunesse admitted to investigators that he did not mean to break the child's leg when he yanked it out of frustration caused by the interruption of his X-box game.
He was arrested and taken to the Citrus County jail and charged with one count of aggravated child abuse.
