'Animal Crossing' Mobile News: Nintendo Confirms Announcement This Week

Nintendo teased fans of an upcoming announcement of "Animal Crossing" for mobile devices this week.

In various social media posts via its official Nintendo pages, the video game company confirmed that they would be announcing the release of "Animal Crossing" on mobile platforms. They will be holding a Nintendo Direct livestream scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 12 p.m. Japan time -- which translates to Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 11 p.m. EDT for fans in the United States.

This comes as good news to everyone who is a fan of the "Animal Crossing" franchise. It can be recalled that the game was intended to be released on a much earlier date, but Nintendo then confirmed its delay in January.

In an earnings report released by Nintendo in late January, the video game company explained that they needed "to accommodate" the planned mobile release of "Fire Emblem Heroes," which happened on Feb. 2, and the launch of the "Super Mario Run" port for Android in March.

The company then explained: "To accommodate the releases and operation of these applications, we have revised the release schedule for Animal Crossing, which we had originally planned to release during this period. This title will be released during the next fiscal year."

While the announcement of the game is set for this week, there is no guarantee yet whether the actual release of "Animal Crossing" for mobile devices will be held in 2017 since the above-mentioned "next fiscal year" lasts up to March 2018.

"Animal Crossing" is Nintendo's community simulation video game that was first introduced in 2001 exclusively for gamers in Japan and available on the Nintendo 64 console. Despite the title, players took on the role of a human with the objective of living among animals across various rural villages.

Over the years, it had several follow-up releases for newer gaming platforms from Nintendo. The latest "Animal Crossing" title was launched in 2016, and it was an Amiibo version of "Animal Crossing: New Leaf."
